Deaf & Hard of Hearing

Following a developmental evaluation, the Case Conference Committee will determine special education eligibility. Developmentally appropriate programming will be determined by the case conference committee. Services are provided by a certified teacher of deaf and hard of hearing and other trained staff.

Deaf and hard of hearing is defined as a disability that, with or without amplification, adversely affects the student’s ability to use hearing for developing language and learning, educational performance and development progress. The hearing loss may be permanent or fluctuating, mild to profound, or unilateral or bilateral. Students who are deaf or hard of hearing may use spoken language, sign language or a combination of both.
