Our weekly classes are tailored to your Preschooler’s specific needs. We will focus on two 3 hour sessions, 5 days a week. There will be a morning session (8:45 a.m. – 11:15 p.m.) and an afternoon session 12:45 p.m. – 3:15 p.m.). We include time for learning areas such as the Library, Minds in Motion, Indoor/Outdoor play, Music, Science and Technology. On Fridays our staff will be attending classes and conferences to make your child’s educational experience top notch. In January we open a classroom for our youngest students. They meet 2 days a week for 2 hour sessions. Times and days of the week will be discussed at your conference.
Newsletters will be sent home weekly so you can ask your child about what is happening in their classroom. The newsletters are full of fun activities in our school and in the community and there is often a fun activity to complete with your child. It’s a “Must Read”!
Be sure to thoroughly check out our web page! Check frequently because all kinds of good information is posted and changed often. You may find a picture of your child enjoying their academic experience.
Each student will receive “Clifford“. This is a Scholastic magazine that the class will discuss together and the student can keep it to show and discuss with their family. Maybe, they can teach a sibling or parent. This reinforces what they learned in class.
Throughout the year we will have special guests come to our school. Some of the special guests we had last year were Dr. Seuss’s Cat in a Hat, Santa and his lovely wife Mrs. Claus, New Albany High School Theatre Department, our local firefighters and police officers, Henry the Hand, U of L drama team, and Story tellers from New Albany Floyd County Library and New Albany Rotary.
Throughout the year we will be having Parent Workshops and Family Fun Nights. The workshops have been selected just for our families and notices will go home in plenty of time so you can attend.
Before the school year starts you and your child will attend Camp Preschool. This is an information packed session to inform families about the program and policies. It is a great opportunity to ask questions and see the school.
We love parent involvement! Some of the areas that we need volunteers are:
Blessings in a Backpack – Weekly pack bags with food. Thursdays @ 8:30 a.m. Commitment about 1 hour a week.
Library Volunteers – Rack and label books, clean shelves, prepare for class visits and read to the students. Commitment is based on your time available. Our Lead Library Volunteer will train you.
Cafeteria helpers – help students open milk and packages and wipe up spills, duties may vary. Commitment. 1 1/2 hour daily or on days you are available.
Readers – read to students during scheduled reading times. 15 minutes to 1 hour a month.
If you have a special skill such as music, drawing/painting, student friendly animals or puppets…..and you would like to volunteer your time we would love to talk with you.
Gardeners – we have an amazing Butterfly Garden that needs occasional weeding and repair. Commitment is as your schedule permits or project time.
We have a secure building with inside and outside cameras, monthly emergency training drills, and a separated lobby. You can be assured we have taken all measures to keep your child and our staff safe. The building’s Main Entrance (Door 1) is on the Pearl Street side of the building. All other doors will be locked or monitored by a staff member during the start of the day and dismissals. All adults will be required to complete an Indiana State Police Criminal History form. Guests will be required to sign in and out at the office, present a valid picture ID and wear a visitor identification sticker.
Breakfast or lunch will be provided, fees will be announced at Camp Preschool. All students must have a Food Application completed before attending the first day of school. Free and Reduced meal applicants will be responsible for all fees until the application is completed. This can be done online at your home computer or we can set you up on a school computer. Please save your confirmation number. and present it to the school office
Our meals are state approved and nutritionally balanced. We encourage and teach healthy food habits. A copy of each weeks menu will be posted in our newsletters and is in your Registration packet. Throughout the year we will have special meals for special occasions. Parents and guardians are invited to join their student for breakfast or lunch. Please call 24 hours in advance to make a reservation, there is a small fee required. Your child is welcome to bring a packed lunch, please be sure it is nutritious and their lunch box is marked with their name.
We think it’s important to keep fundraisers to a minimum. We will collect Box Tops and Labels 4 Education. You can send these labels in with your student or drop them off at the office. Ask your family and friends to get involved. Children’s Academy Early Learning Center participates in Shoparoo. Information is in your Registration packet. If you need a new copy contact the office and we will gladly send you another. We have a building wide fundraiser in October, Trikes for Tykes. The students will ride laps on tricycles to raise money for St. Jude’s Hospital. Family and friends may choose to sponsor their child. Each participating student will receive a prize. St. Jude’s Hospital has helped many of our families and this is our way to give back to the community.
